I went to my first DCM event in December 2025 not really knowing what I was walking into. I was brand new to both kink and rope education, so I mostly hung back, watched, and tried to take it all in. I didn’t know many people, but it didn’t take long to feel how welcoming and connected the space was.

People were genuinely kind and easy to talk to, and when I introduced myself, they were happy to answer questions I had. I also got to try a short, fully negotiated rope experience as a top and a bottom, which really showed me how much trust, communication, and care goes into this art form. It was a meaningful first step, and it helped me realize I really enjoy being in the tying role.

I missed the January event, but when I came back in February, I felt way more comfortable being involved instead of just observing. Something that mattered to me was making an effort to greet people who were new or just watching, because that had been me not too long ago. The focus on consent, learning, and community made it easy to feel like I belonged and want to keep growing here.

The Dark Circus Menagerie is a new addition to the SD kink scene with its origins in the shibari rope bondage community but it is open to a wide range of activities. It is on the upscale side of things with a changing monthly theme that allows for dressing up and role playing if that appeals to you. You don’t have to but it’s there if you like to. The food is catered and changes with the theme. It is not to missed. The main play space is ideal. It’s open, easy parking, the air temperature controls work. The restrooms are well lit, clean and spacious. The people are friendly and relaxed. There is room to spread out and do your scene. Booth seating along the wall if watching is more your speed. Monitors patrol the space to ensure everyone is following the rules. Signing up early provides a hefty discount. Take the plunge and I think you’ll be adding this event to your monthly calendar.

ATU is just a genuinely welcoming community. I wish I had gotten out of my head about the events sooner. The early classes, and especially the 101 class, showed that this group takes safety and consent seriously. By the time I walked in, I knew the rules and felt safe enough to just kick back and enjoy the night. No pressure, just good vibes and great people.

Black Rose Society was my first Dark Circus event and first scene at an event. It was incredible! Spectacular costumes, a dozen scenes at once, great food, and good company. An absolutely exhilarating experience, I highly recommend it, and can’t wait for the next one!

I learned s lot of things in the class that I didn’t know or thought I knew but wasn’t quite right. Also Dan was funny and made it seem more relaxed.

This is the perfect class to bring a top or bottom from competent beginner to confident rope enthusiast. The time spent learning the rope, myself and my partner were priceless and essential to firm foundation in my journey. Thank you. 10/10 would recommend
