All tied up provides excellent rope instruction at very reasonable prices. Dan and Rob’s passion for rope and sharing their skills is obvious in every class they teach. The progression of skills presented is well thought out and presented at a challenging but achievable pace. Classes provide a strong emphasis on safety and consent – something that every aspiring rigger should be keenly interested in.

In addition to teaching the skills of rope bondage, All Tied Up has managed to build up a really nice community of rope kinksters. All tied up hosts munches to encourage social interaction between attendees. I have always felt welcomed and respected by everyone associated with this organization.

Some persnickety suggestions to improve the classes:

The layout of the space that All Tied Up primarily uses functions well as a dungeon (its primary purpose) but poses challenges as a classroom. I suggest that the space that is currently designated “the stage” is not ideally suited to allow the best viewing angle to the greatest number of people. I often find myself watching the side of a tie being performed and it is difficult to understand what is being done. As most tops need to relocate themselves closer to the stage to see the tie being performed anyways, I propose moving the area where tying is demonstrated to in between floor locations 15 and 18, or in between floor locations 1 and 3.

Paper handouts are distributed at the beginning of each class. I generally find these useful both during the class and as a reference after. I think these handouts would be even more powerful pedagogical tools if they were emailed out a couple days before: this would allow more novice riggers (like me) to develop some familiarity with the topics that are to be covered and ensure they are preserved for posterity for people who are good at keeping track of electronic files but not paper (also like me).

Overall, I greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn from Dan and Rob and would recommend this organization to anyone interested in rope bondage. Coming to All Tied Up events is one of the highlights of my month.

Response from All Tied Up San Diego

Thank you for the review and thoughts! We love having you both at the classes! We’d love to find a space more conducive to the class setting and we are grateful to have the space we do have! If you know of something, please let me know! We will have to discuss further the emailing of the handout head of time. Unfortunately, in some cases the handout is being finalized the night before the class, thus making emailing it difficult, but definitely something to consider. Look forward to seeing you and your partner at future events! -Dan

Excellent Experience

The All Tied Up classes, rope community, and events have been an overwhelmingly positive part of my experience in San Diego. The knowledge and experience readily available through helpful staff, the unique focus on consent, safety, and risk education and awareness, and the obvious organization and thoroughness in classes makes ATU’s rope instruction invaluable to the new rigger or bottom. From the first munch and RP&I, the friendly and inclusive people who make up the community are an inseparable part of what makes ATU special. Will always consider ATU in San Diego my home for rope, and look forward to returning every time.

A Very informative and fun learning experience

Myself and Kissed by Fire attended our safety 101 class Held by Sir Knotty Dan and the All Tied Up San Diego team. We had a blast Dan was very Knowledgeable and pointed us in the right direction. We plan on Attending more All Tied up Events. The House of Black was very welcoming. I have never been to a Dungeon but I feel that Kissed By Fire and myself will become regulars to the Rope Community if the other events are as fun as this one.

We have a lot to learn and Dan and Renae seem like a fun loving open people who are there to help. Thank You All Tied Up. We will see you soon

Well-structured, but oblivious teacher.

The class itself was well structured and focused on rope-scene etiquette for the first hour or so and I thought that that was good. We went over three basic ties (column tie, double column tie and chest harness). The location was good, not great – it was a little crowded for the number of people they had. It would have been better if we had all been able to spread out on the floor and got a little more individual attention for each of the ties – people were all standing because there wasn’t much room and if you didn’t get the tie on the first or second try, you got left behind.

My major complaint: I went with a new rope top (I’m an experienced bottom), my partner wasn’t very good with the ties and Dan, the teacher, was getting frustrated with him. When my partner was confused, he would ask for clarification or just freeze and Dan would repeat exactly what he just said, but louder and with a little more annoyance. It’s very good practice for a teacher to learn to be patient and rephrase. It did not end up being a good time and I think my partner walked away from the experience not feeling very good about himself.

Yep, guilty as charged. I had the same comment about myself as I was driving home. Definitely an off night for me and I appreciate your feedback calling me on it! My apologies to you and your partner. If you should ever decide to give us another chance I would welcome the opportunity to improve on your experience. -Dan

This is invaluable information and hands on teaching and learning. It is exactly what we were looking for in a class. Fun work ! A wonderfully fun learning atmosphere. We probably have the least experience and we are probably having the most fun. Most importantly we feel safe here . We feel like we are among friends and that makes a wonderful learning environment. The instructors are kind, experienced, patient, fun, and so fucking hot !!!

From newbies to experienced rope enthusiasts alike, there is something for you at AllTiedUp. Not only have Dan and Renee created a place for you to learn shibari in a responsible way, they a have created a community where people can come together to share their enthusiasm about rope.

Right from the beginning you will learn hard skills about rope as well as in depth instruction on safety and consent. Everyone is welcoming and supportive no matter you skill level.

I’ve been attending ATU events for over a year now, and I’ve grown so much as a rigger. Once you have your basics down, the advanced 201 classes are a must!

I have mild social anxiety. ATU fosters a perfect place to interact with people for a purpose which helps. It’s one part social and one part hard skills learning and it’s tied up in a sexy little bow. I have made life long connections here. My best friends are here. This is something I never knew I needed in my life. Thank you ATU for everything you do.

Great Teachers and Community

I’ve been attending ATU events for over a year and attended over a dozen of the 201+ class. As a teacher and event planner I’m consistently impressed by the quality of presentation and instruction. The 201+ class is a well-oiled machine that provides material for everyone from (almost) rank beginners to experienced riggers.

The ATU community itself has been incredibly friendly and welcoming, not just at the events but at the munches and around town as well. Honestly couldn’t ask for more.

A Great Experience for Tops and Bottoms

We attended our first 201 class after having a great experience at several of the intro classes. The instructors and staff at ATU are top notch. They were very attentive to answering questions anyone had, and making sure everyone was making progress regardless of what level they were at. The atmosphere was very friendly, non-intimidating, and comfortable. I highly recommend All Tied Up for anyone interested in beginning or continuing their rope journey regardless of their skill level.

That was an amazing class. 5 stars! Applaudes and *wiggles. Wow the consent culture break down couldnt have been more on que, thank you for going over all forms of consent with a relatable example. The break down of the granny knot was awesome. Very simple in least amount of steps and words. A perfect pace.

I also loved the timed excersise at the end. I mean I know tying blind folded will increase time but I didnt know by that much after one experienece, beautifully portrayed :)I have been tying for a few years now and I love how theres always more to learn even in basic techniques. I am looking forward to this year learning even more with all of you.
