This is a really great intro course to soft skills for being involved in a BDSM community, which are so important! As well as some general basics of rope. It’s kinda like BDSM 101 specifically within the context of rope. We went over negotiation, communication, vetting, post-scene dynamics, and so much more! And we got to touch different kinds of rope too! Came with a handy flyer and online courses! Dan really wants to make sure you learn knowledge and the wisdom he learned from him and his wife’s mistakes, and the mistakes from others. I feel like I’m in good hands teacher-wise and am supported in my journey with rope!

Step One: Sign Up!
You can start anytime by signing up. The course materials are waiting for you right now!
Step Two: Receive Invitations
You will receive an EMAIL and be invited to our private SLACK workspace AND to the Experience Course Platform where the course content is provided. These are TWO different applications used for this course.
Joining these platforms is how you gain the ability to complete the course.
Step Three: Connect with the Community and Instructor (Slack)
The All Tied Up San Diego Rope Community is broken into two groups, newcomers and experienced.
Your instructor and support team are ready to help you succeed in completing this course. You can contact them at anytime through the Slack application.
Once you accept the invitation to our private SLACK workspace you will be placed in our newcomers group with others just like you, at the beginning of their journey.
Once you complete this course, you will be moved over to our much larger experienced workspace. We have more than 350 individuals in this workspace and it is a great place to connect with others.
Step Four: Connect with Experience Course Platform
Once you sign into the Experience Course Platform you will then see the pre-recorded videos, content and assignments that you can complete.
Make special note of the MISSION and GOALS that are assigned to this course.
Step Five: Complete the Course!

Fantastic Course
I found this to be an outstanding course- there could not be a better introductory course for persons new to rope, as I am. Dan is an exceptional instructor- he teaches rope skills very effectively, but as important, he made me comfortable as a new learner to rope and he teaches an awareness of the importance mutual consent and respect. He is a very good teacher of effective mutual communication and consent. Dan was assisted by several outstanding associates who were very helpful in the learning process- Fairy and Spectrum. Fairy was particularly helpful to me on a one-on-one basis to understand and practice negotiation techniques.

What if I do not have a partner?
This course is designed for those with a partner. However, it is possible to learn without one.
When does class start and end?
The Getting Started Course is a self-contained course.
There is a final test you will need to complete in order to verify completion of the course.
What is the time commitment for this course?
This course has a time commitment!
It will take approximately 3 -5 hourse to complete the entire course, including all of the ties and submissions for feedback.
What does the course contain?
In this course you will learn:
- How to tie three basic foundational ties to rope bondage. These ties include elements and processes that you use in future ties, these are truly the foundations of bondage.
- Learn why rope bondage is dangerous and how to safely mitigate risk. So many people watch a video and then try to tie the form, without understanding the risk. You will understand the deeper things that will help you and your partner to know what the risks are and how to mitigate them.
- Learn the Stages of a rope tie. And what you need to know about each one of them to have a successful scene.
- Learn about consent, negotiation, and communication related to rope. These three things are so important and they will become more important the further you go on your rope journey. You will have a great base of knowledge to give you confidence.
- Learn how to negotiate the TOUCH aspect of a rope tie. You will know EXACTLY how to discuss how to touch or where you want to be touched (OR NOT). And you will see me do a negotiation with another person. Super cool to watch and learn.
- Learn the CRITICAL aspects of Physiology and Anatomy when it comes to rope. The body is the canvas and the body is an incredibly complex creation that you need to understand how to put rope on a body safely and effectively!

How long will I have access to the videos?
You can access the course for as long as it is available. I
What equipment do I need for the class?
You will need a minimum of two 30' hanks of rope and safety shears. More rope is great. We recommend that you use either jute or hemp rope for this course. Nylon rope is acceptable, however some ties may require modification to hold effectively.
What if I have questions or do not understand something?
You will have the option to join our private Slack workspace. This is the place to submit any questions and to get the answers that you seek. Sharing your questions with the group will help everyone learn and for us to gain valuable feedback about the materials.
How can I connect with the community and learn more?
Joining the Slack Workspace is one way. Another is to participate in our regularly scheduled events either online or in-person. The best way to connect is at in-person events, however this course does not give you access to our in-person events, you must attend the in-person class to do so.
Any pre-qualifications to take this course?
There are no pre-qualifications to take this course.
Note: This course does not take the place of in-person instruction, nor does it allow you to attend in-person events with All Tied Up San Diego, without attending the in-person safety class for newcomers. This is for the safety of all attendees at our events. You may however be able to test out of the in-person class for newcomers, but you must message SirKnottyDan a minimum of three days prior to the in-person event and answer a series of questions. Exception can be made at the sole discretion of All Tied Up San Diego.
